Daniel Day, also called Dapper Dan, is a legendary figure in Harlem. He soon built a clientele of
celebrities, including Sean Combs, LL Cool J, the hip-hop combo Eric B. & Rakim, and Missy
Elliott, by using opulent materials to produce unique, logo-heavy designs.
Luxury brands began suing Dan in the 1990s for his inventive use of their brand names, causing
him to close his store on 125th Street. Years later, Gucci collaborated with him on an atelier in
Harlem where he currently works after stealing one of his designs (talk about going full circle).
